Battlefield deception has existed since the days that man first struck down another man. In the darkest days for the Allied cause a unique band of eccentric men came together to help stem the tide of Nazi aggression. They did not fight with weapons as one would imagine in wartime, rather they fought with theatricality and deception; which we know are powerful agents to the unsuspecting. Artists, craftsman, engineers, all of them free thinking men who did not adhere to standard ideas of conduct and misconceived notions of valor, they would place themselves in full view of the enemy. Together they came from all corners of the British Empire and later crossing the ocean from America to deceive, trick, confound and harass the enemy in ever way they could. They would disguise themselves as other units, they would make tanks and armored vehicle appear out of thin air only to vanish once more. They would endanger entire regions with the threat of invasion by an army of nothing more than canvas, wood, rubber and rumors alone.
